Poised on a knoll overlooking picturesque Avalon, the landmark Catalina Country Club is a striking example of Early California Revival architecture with distressed cream-colored walls, deep green trim, and a Spanish tile roof.
A brick entryway welcomes you onto the spacious, historical property, five minutes and a world away from the center of town. With a spectacular view of Avalon in the background, continue up the stairs into an arched portico and discover a colorful example of Catalina’s once thriving tile industry: the Country Club’s original Catalina Tile drinking fountain.
The Club’s expansive layout is divided into several unique areas. A brick terrace, set just off the main entrance, is ideal for small, intimate affairs. Exchange vows with the ocean as a backdrop, and enjoy a reception in the same location or in the adjacent banquet room. Continue up the stairs through the entryway into the Fountain Terrace, a classic setting for both weddings and receptions for up to 120 guests. Lined with ornate cement columns, paved with accented brick flooring, and anchored by an elaborate tile fountain, the Fountain Terrace exudes elegant simplicity. It is easy to see why outdoor receptions are so popular: guests can lounge comfortably in wrought-iron chairs, beneath market umbrellas in the daytime or under the stars at night.
Equally memorable affairs are held in the chic, Mission-style formal dining room, capable of accommodating up to 65 seated guests. An outdoor veranda surrounds the room, perfect for intimate dining for two. South American chandeliers hang from the wood-beamed vaulted ceiling while soft lighting, hurricane lanterns, and the glow of the fireplace set the mood. Sink into a plush armchair and absorb the formal room’s many exquisite touches: Plein Air artwork gracing the walls, rich mahogany detailing, and giant bay windows opening to expose a view extending from the ocean on the west to the former site of the Chicago Cub’s spring training field on the east.
